Abstract

A cooling cabinet 1, suitable for the storage of chocolate products at a point of sale, comprises a storage enclosure formed from a top, bottom and sides which comprise an inner wall 2 and an outer wall 7 with thermal insulation material 3 in between. Thermoelectric cooling devices 14, 15 are mounted on the inside wall 2 with the hot side of the thermoelectric devices bonded to metal cooling fins 16 projecting outside the insulation layer 3. Tanks 18, 19 containing a phase change material are in thermal contact with the top and side walls. A temperature sensor and a control device for maintaining a temperature in the range of from about 15°C to about 20°C in said storage enclosure, is fitted. A door may be fitted in the top or sides. The cabinet may also be fitted with a rechargeable battery, and/or a photovoltaic cell to provide back-up power.
