Abstract

Apparatus for supporting open- centered coils of elongate material whilst the material is unwound from the coils comprises a turntable on which two rotary coil-carriers are mounted for tipping about respective tipping axes. The tipping axes are parallel to each other and lie on opposite sides of a rotary axis of the turntable, the carriers being aligned with each other in a direction perpendicular to the tipping axes. The tipping axes are spaced apart by a distance only a little greater than the diameter of the carriers so that the carriers can be tipped alternatively into positions in which they are intersected by the axis of the turntable.
