Abstract
An optical sensor or viewing system, for use in automatic meter reading systems, comprises a main prism 1 with a meter window 10 facing face, a first reflective surface, and a viewing prism 3 attached to the first reflective surface, allowing direct reading of the meter usage information 6 by a human operator 8, while simultaneously enabling an image detection device or camera at 12 to receive a reflected image of the same information. The sensor may comprise a second reflective surface, a recess for an illumination device (13 in Figure 4), a transparent adhesive layer 11 which may be acrylic, an extension prism (7 in Figure 2) and/or a mounting bracket (18 in Figure 8). A kit of parts is also provided, and comprises a main prism, a viewing prism, and one or more extension prisms.
