Abstract

A means to enable the direct replacement of an electronically ballasted fluorescent lighting tube with a replacement device containing light emitting diodes 21, 22 that are driven via an array of steering diodes 16, 17 connected to the input terminals 3-6 of the original heaters, with the heater elements being substituted by inductors 12, 13 and where the load is matched to the original current of the fluorescent tube being replaced by means of single or multiple chains 20 of LED elements having variable chain lengths to achieve the total power level required. The invention makes possible the direct replacement of a fluorescent tube without the need to make changes to the wiring so maintaining the original light fittings warranty and minimising the cost of installation.
