Abstract

A new breast replica cast assembly (NBRC) for use in autologous breast reconstruction on a patient who has undergone surgery to remove one breast by mastectomy comprises a mould body and lid formed from a substantially transparent or translucent material such that the contents are visible from outside the mould. An overlaying lid to the mould body provides a surface substantially corresponding to the surface of the patient's mastectomized breast area. A method of forming a mould body includes obtaining a 3D computer image of the patient s non-mastectomised breast area, then using a solid model formed from a mirror image of the computer image to form the new breast replica cast. An alternative method includes obtaining a 3D computer image of the patient s breast area prior to mastectomy, then using a solid model formed from the computer image to form the new breast replica cast.
