Abstract

Cooling apparatus 1 with a conduit 2 extending upwards to a higher altitude uses an airflow generator (e.g. fan 6) to draw air from its top 4 to its bottom 5 to provide cool air. The conduit may be a concrete tower 1-3km high, have its top on a hill or mountain (fig 4), or be a collapsible tower (fig 5) expanded by filling with a lighter than air gas such as helium. A second conduit 11 can return air after passing through a heat exchanger 19. Condensed water can be collected.
