Abstract

A wireless communication system 2 comprises a source node 4 configured to transmit a message 9 to a destination node 6, which transmits an indication 11 (i.e. an ACK/NACK response) of whether the message 9 has been correctly received, and at least one relay node 8a, 8b configured to receive the message 9 transmitted by the source node 4 and to retransmit the message 9â in response to receiving a negative indication 11 from the destination node 6. The relay node 9a, 9b assumes that the indication 11 is positive if no indication is received at the relay node 8a, 8b from the destination node 6 and the source node 4 assumes that the indication 11 is negative if no indication is received at the source node 4 from the destination node 6. The source node 4 transmits the message in a first timeslot and does not transmit a different message in a subsequent timeslot if a negative indication 11 is received or assumed.
