Abstract

A window assembly for a detention cell comprising a frame 14 and a light permeable unit 28 held within the frame 14. The light permeable unit 28 has a light transmittance value of between 60% and 85% and comprises a first light permeable panel 16a and a second light permeable panel 16b spaced apart from each other and defining a cavity 34 therebetween. A retention plate 22 may be used to hold the glazing unit in place and may be screwed, riveted, nailed in place 24 or be welded to the frame unit. A gasket 30 may be placed between the retention plate 22 and the glazing 16a. An anticut block (50 Fig 6) may be located between the edge of the glazing unit and the frame. An obscurity layer may be used, preferably by acid etching the glass. A polyester powder coating may be used on the frame and the frame members may include thermal breaks. The glazing unit may be composite glass, polycarbonates or combinations thereof.
