Abstract

A method to approximate the actual wall distance of a point in a numerical model, comprising steps to solve a Poisson equation numerically and then calculate a Poisson velocity component therefrom; define a hybrid velocity having the Poisson velocity component and a Hamilton-Jacobi velocity component; evaluate the hybrid velocity numerically using an initial assumption; and iteratively calculate an approximate wall distance by solving a Hamilton-Jacobi equation using the hybrid velocity and re-evaluate the hybrid velocity using the approximate wall distance from the previous step until the wall distance converges.
