Abstract
A lifting apparatus 2 is configured to interconnect a lifting member 8 to a payload 6, 24. The lifting apparatus 2 comprises a lifting member connection assembly 102 for permitting a mechanical connection to be established between the lifting apparatus 2 and a lifting member 8, a payload connection assembly 104 for permitting a mechanical connection to be established between the lifting apparatus 2 and a payload 6, 24 and an interface assembly 130 configured to releasably engage a supported payload 6, 24 to permit the exchange of power and/or information between the lifting apparatus 2 and the supported payload 6, 24. Such a lifting apparatus 2 may be used for the deployment and retrieval of a payload 6, 24 through a body of water and is particularly, though not exclusively, useful for the deployment and/or retrieval of a payload such as a component 6, 24 of a subsea well intervention system. Such a lifting apparatus 2 may also be used for the exchange or power and/or information with a subsea structure 6, 22, 24 after installation of the subsea structure 6, 22, 24.
