Abstract

Protective arrangements.-The output of a generator is limited under abnormal load conditions by placing a resistance in operative relation to the circuit when a short-circuit or abnormal load occurs and by connecting the shunt field-winding of the generator in parallel with the armature and the resistance. Under normal conditions the resistance is shunted by a series field-winding. The generator is connected to the circuit through a circuit-breaker, the contacts of which are bridged by a low impedance. The armature 1 and a resistance 7 are shunted by a field-winding 5 provided with a regulating resistance 15. A series field-winding 6 is adapted under normal conditions to be connected in parallel with the resistance 7 by means of a voltage relay 8, the operating winding 10 of which is controlled by a current relay 12. To connect the generator to line a switch 20 is closed to complete the circuit of the operating coil 18 of a circuitbreaker 17 and to connect the generator to line through a resistance 19 which is short-circuited when the circuit-breaker 17 is closed. At a predetermined voltage the relay 8 operates to close the circuit of the field-winding 6 in shunt with the resistance 7. Upon the occurrence of a shortcircuit or an abnormal load the current relay 12 operates to open the circuit of the operating coil 10 of the relay 8 and the resistance 7 is placed in the load circuit.
