Abstract

A system comprises first and second devices, each display device (10) comprising a display screen (12), an image capture device (14), a storage device (16), a network connector (18), and control means (20) connected to all of the above. The storage device of each display device stores an identifier for the other display device. To initiate audio-visual communication with the second device, a user of the first device provides a defined input e.g. depressing a button on the device (26, fig.2, not shown). On receipt of the input, the control means initiates communication with the second device, using its stored identifier, over network (22). Alternatively the first device can be arranged to detect the connection of the second device to the network and automatically connect to the second device over the network.
