Abstract

A remotely controlled outdoor light system 100 comprising of a control unit 190 that is physically interposed between one or more lighting fixtures 144 and a power supply 120, 124, 108 or 104, and a user remote controller 180 for the purpose of manipulating the light system and to trigger an audible alarm on the remote controller whenever a predefined criteria is met. The control unit and the said remote controller communicate with each other preferably via a wireless interface. One of the preset criteria is intrusion detection and for this purpose the control unit of the light system is equipped with an intrusion detection strategy employing a combination of both pyroelectric ­type and microwave sensing and associated signal processing unit for correctly detecting the presence of an intruder. The light system may be equipped with a security camera enabling video surveillance that will be turned on upon detecting an intrusion and transmit the live video footage after having triggered the alarm so that the user will view events that may be taking place outdoor using either the remote controller or a preferred handheld device such as a mobile phone, PDA or notepad. The lighting fixtures may use LEDs.
