Abstract

A dock or docking station 20 which allows a docked portable media device (PMD) 1 (for transmitting audio and video signals) to be rotated. It comprises a support element 2 supporting a rotatable element 3 which rotates about an axis substantially orthogonal to the surface where the connection unit 4 is located. The support and rotatable elements may comprise a hollow plastic moulded component. Any wires or cables may be arranged to allow sufficient slack so that rotation of the connection unit is not inhibited. The portable device may be turned through an angle of no more than 270°, preferably no more than 180, and the dock may comprise stops to limit the angular range about which the device can be turned. The dock may include a power source for charging the device, and a sensor 5 allowing remote control. The dock may form part of an item of furniture such as a desk or cabinet [Fig. 6, 30], and such that it is flush with the outer surface of the furniture item.
