Abstract

A control unit (1, fig.2; 2, fig.4) for a heating system 70 having at least two heating pipeworks 72 and 71, 73, and at least two energy sources for heating liquid circulating in the pipeworks, where a first energy source is preferably a renewable energy source, such as a boiler stove 30, and a second energy source is preferably a conventional energy source, such as a gas boiler 35. The control unit comprises a base panel (5, figs.2and4), at least a pair of interconnected valves 4, 4a mounted on the base panel and an electronic control module for controlling the valves. The first valve 4 is directly connected to the first energy source and the first heating pipework and the second valve 4a is directly connected to the second energy source and the second pipework. The electronic control module is configured to control the valves so that liquid heated by the first energy source is directed into the first and/or the second pipework and/or so that liquid heated by the second energy source is directed into the second heating pipework as and when determined by the electronic control module. Preferably, the valves are interconnected via a heat exchanger (7, fig.7).
