Abstract
In a system for controlling the air/fuel ratio supplied to an engine in response to the oxygen content of the exhaust gases the ratio is automatically made leaner than stoichiometric, (by biasing an oxygen sensor) when a cruise condition is detected, (by differentiated at 30 the output of a speed sensor 28). A controller 12 determines the duty ratio of a fuel injector in response to a ramp signal produced by integrating at 14 the constant high or low output of a threshold comparator 16, and also in response to engine temperature and M.A.P. in an open loop manner. A "cruise detector" 32 produces a signal when the acceleration or deceleration is less than a prescribed value to bias the oxygen sensor and also to open a by-pass 26 to a catalytic converter 24. When a cruise signal is not present a switch 34 samples the detector 32 at intervals to determine whether it should be. <IMAGE>
