Abstract

Apparatus and method for sealing an opening in the wall of an elongate tubular article, for example irrigation hose. The repair can be carried out in situ thus avoiding having to return the article to a service depot for repair with consequent loss of use and the flexibility of the article in the region of the repair is not substantially reduced. The apparatus comprises first and second support members (2,3) for location against the inner and outer surfaces (20a,20b) respectively of the wall (20) surrounding the opening (19). A sealant compound located in recesses (8) in the members (2,3) effects a seal between the members (2,3) and the inner and outer surfaces (20a,20b) of the wall (20) surrounding the opening (19). The members (2,3) are bolted to each other with the wall (20) sandwiched between complementary lips (7a) of the members (2,3). The first member (3) is located against the inner surface (20a) of the wall (20) and the members (2,3) aligned relative to each other by positioning means (4). <IMAGE>
