Abstract

A temperature-variable pulley system (16) has a drive pulley (50) and driven pulley (18) each of which has a movable section (58, 28) enabling the bite (60, 30), and thus the diameter, of the pulley to be altered as is known. Temperature- responsive actuators (68) are arranged round the periphery of the drive pulley and abut against its movable section (58) to adjust it with varying temperature. The movable section (28) of the driven pulley (18) is spring loaded (44) to oppose the action of the actuators (68). The system (16) offers simplicity and an effective positioning of the actuators (68). <IMAGE>
