Abstract

A method and apparatus for lowering a diver through a hostile liquid are described. The diver 21, wearing a conventional diving suit, is lowered through the hostile liquid 2 in a container, preferably an outer suit; which is filled, and preferably continuously supplied, with a less hostile liquid 23 which is no less dense than, and immiscible with, the liquid through which the diver is lowered. The method is particularly applicable for lowering a diver through a body of oil, in which case the liquid in the container will usually be water. <IMAGE>
