Abstract

A printing ink product which comprises an ink vehicle the chemical structure of which includes linkages which are readily cleavable under conditions which are sufficiently different from those of normal ink usage so as to permit printing with the ink in the customary manner, though are not so severe as to cause substantial disruption or damage of paper fibre. In Examples the cleavable linkages are provided by silylation of trimethylolpropane with di-n- butoxydimethylsilane, the product then being reacted with (a) maleinised rosin and benzoic acid and (b) with linoleic acid to obtain a silylated trimethylolpropane monolinoleate; also, maleinised rosin, trimethylolpropane and benzoic acid are reacted together and then silylated with di-n-hexyloxydimethylsilane; carbon black-linseed oil ink compositions are prepared containing silylated trimethylolpropane monolinoleate and silylated maleinised rosin linseed alkyd and silylated trimethylolpropane monoacrylate is added to a phthalocyanine blue epoxy acrylate base.
