Abstract

An automatic marking device comprises a hand-operated component (1) enclosing a holder (3) bearing a return spring (2), and a casing (10) enclosing a marking unit (5) which comprises a number of wheels (5') bearing numbers, letters or other symbols and fitted on to a longitudinally split shaft (5'') containing positioning spigots (5''') and thrust springs (5'''') for the spigots, combined with change cams (15), the device further comprising a holder (9) for an ink pad and a repeat selector (11) controlling a fork or yoke (18) for automatically changing the mark that will be given by the device. The hand-operated component (1) has substantially the same cross-sectional dimensions as the casing (10) and is coupled thereto in a manner allowing it to be slid telescopically in the casing (10). <IMAGE>
