Abstract

A crankshaft (1) is rotatably mounted in a baseplate (2), with 2nd order mass balancing devices (8) for the crankshaft (1) disposed one at each end of the crankshaft (1), at least one of the devices (8) being mounted directly on the base plate (2) so that the mass balancing forces are transmitted therefrom direct to the baseplate (2) in operation of the engine. <IMAGE>
