Abstract

A method for preparing D-2-(p- hydroxyphenyl) glycyl chloride hydrochloride dioxan hemisolvate, having the formula: <IMAGE> comprises reacting D-2-(p- trimethylsilyloxyphenyl) glycine-N- carboxyanhydride with hydrogen chloride in a solvent containing dioxane. The compound produced is useful in making 6-(p- hydroxyphenyl)glycylamido penam and 7-(p-hydroxyphenyl)glycylamido cepham derivatives.
