Abstract

A fluidised bed apparatus has a body 2 (or 102 Fig. 2 or 202 Fig. 3) containing a fluidized bed of particulate material and means such as plenum chambers 8 (or an array of tubes such as 108, 123, Fig. 2) disposed within the body to define flow paths for the bed material, and gas inlet means (e.g. stub pipes projecting out of the chambers 8; or a perforated pipe 20) for assisting circulation and flow of the bed material along said paths. The body may comprise a combustion space in which fuel is burnt to heat water in a space surrounding the body, and in tubes disposed in the bed or comprising the arcuate walls 10 of chambers 8. <IMAGE>
