Abstract

A method as disclosed for the detection of impurities in a container particularly the detection of impurities in bottles that have been washed prior to reuse. The container is connected in an air-tight manner to a pressure reducing system, and pressure in the container is reduced either until a first pre-set pressure is obtained in the container or for a pre- set time and pressure behaviour in the container is followed as a function of time and compared in one of a number of ways with predetermined values therefor to indicate whether the values obtained are indicative or otherwise of the presence of an unacceptable impurity level in the container.
