Abstract

A security container for carrying credit cards is in the form of a hollow body (1) containing a drawer (7) to hold cards (8). Combination lock (23) blocks movement of a release push- button (19), depression of which causes drawer (7) to spring open, when pushed back into body (1), drawer (7) automatically latching in the closed position. Defacing mechanism (32, 33, 34) discharges a dye or other defacing substance on to cards (8) in the event of forcible opening of the container without unlocking of the combination lock (23) and depression of the push-button (19). The defacing substance is contained in a pressurised capsule (31) mounted in a carrier (32) which is spring loaded towards a blade (33) mounted at the inner end of drawer (7), carrier (32) normally being held back against loading springs (34) by latch (36, 37) which is freed in the event of drawer (7) being forced open, or a tensioned cord (47) severed or released if the body is cut open. <IMAGE>
