Abstract

A fusible element comprises electrically-conductive fusible material (11 and 12) which incorporates a material 10 which provides a high mechanical reinforcement. The reinforcement may be fibres of boron, carbon, glass or insulated stainless steel. Carbon fibres may be silver plated and bonded by resin to form a slug (Fig. 3 not shown). The element may be notched and incorporated in a cartridge fuse (Figs. 4 & 5 not shown). Said element may be used in an electrical fuse suitable for use on a rotary machine where the element is subjected to centrifugal forces. <IMAGE>
