Abstract

A compound corresponding to the following general formula: <IMAGE> wherein Y represents hydrogen or 1-cyclohexenyl; R represents C1-C12 alkyl, C1-C4 hydroxyalkyl, furanyl, norbornenyl, phenethyl, phenoxymethyl, phenyl or isopropenyl; and R<1> and R<2>, which may be the same or different, each represents C1-C4 alkyl; or a chloride, bromide, acetate, sulphate or phosphate thereof, is disclosed. Such compounds may be used to retard the ripening of picked fruit, vegetables or other merchantable materials of plant origin. Inter alia, it is an advantage of the present invention that the produce may be picked and shipped at a later stage of ripening.
