Abstract

A snatch block comprises a sheave (12) mounted for rotation on an intermediate portion (14) of a wire- like rod (16). First and second arm portions (28, 30) of the wire-like rod extend radially outwardly from the intermediate portion in directions substantially parallel to one another. The ends of the arm portions are formed into oppositely directed hooks (32, 34) such that the tips thereof approach and, if desired, contact an adjacent region of an arm portion, the wire-like rod (16) thus defining a substantially closed loop (58). In use, a rope or line (24) may be passed between the hook-like ends (32, 34) so as to pass through the loop (58) and engage a groove in the sheave (12). Similarly, an eyehook or other bight-like element (44) may be engaged within the loop (58), passing around the hooked ends (32, 34), by passing the bight (44) a sufficient distance between the hook-like ends (32, 34) and twisting. <IMAGE>
