Abstract

A bush 12 for guiding the steering rod 10 of a motor car is made of plastics material and consists of a central sleeve 14 having the inside diameter substantially equal to the rod diameter and the outside diameter shorter than the diameter of the seat formed in the rack box 11. Longitudinal splines 15 extend alternatingly from the sleeve and towards the centre and two frustoconical bodies 16, 17 comprising a plurality of resilient fingers 20, 21 are integral with the sidewalls of the sleeve. The outer edges of the frustoconical bodies engage a seat in the box so that the bush assembly automatically takes up the clearance by exploiting the elastic properties of the plastics material. <IMAGE>
