Abstract

A ratcheting socket wrench has an elongated shaft 52 journalled in the handle 16 and provided with a knob 53 at the outer end of the handle. The shaft 52 is also reciprocally disposed in the handle 16 where in one position as shown it can be rotated thereby rotating via gearing 26 a drive stud for starting or removing loose bolts and the like and in a second position it is rotatable to rotate a ratcheting control device 30 to move it from a control non-drive engaging position to either of two opposed positions wherein a respective pawl 38, 40 engages the gearing 26 for one-way drive in either direction. The shaft carries a shoulder to move the control device 30 to its central position when it is moved to its one position. <IMAGE>
