Abstract

The compounds of the formula (I): <IMAGE> and salts and esters thereof (wherein R<1> is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; R<2> is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group; and R<3> is a hydrogen atom or a COR<4>, CO2R<4> or CONR<4>R<5> group where R<4> is an alkyl group of up to 6 carbon atoms or a phenyl or benzyl group and R<5> is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group of up to 6 carbon atoms) possess beta -lactamase inhibitory and anti-bacterial properties, and give good blood levels and urinary recoveries after administration. The invention further provides a process for the preparation of these compounds and pharmaceutical compositions containing them. Amoxycillin and ampicillin may also be present.
