Abstract

A display system for providing a television-type raster display includes an analogue function generator (12) to produce a representation of voltage-time function corresponding to at least part of a symbol to be displayed and synchronised with the frame time-base generator (10) of an associated display unit (D). The system also includes means (14) to determine the start position in each scan line of a constituent element of the symbol part, and is synchronised with the line time- base generator (11) of the associated display unit, and means (15) to determine the length of each symbol element. Either such means (14) or (15) comprises a monostable device, or at least one voltage- controlled monostable device. An input of one of the means (14) or (15) is coupled to the output of the analogue function generator. In any arrangement, the means (15) to determine the length of each symbol element is connected between the other means (14) and the display unit 'D'. <IMAGE>
