Abstract

The invention relates to the coupling of an ultrasonic probe to a patient. Conventionally this is done using a fluid gel which is messy and inconvenient. The invention employs a plug 6 of a solid, resiliently deformable ultra-sound transmitting material which can be held in close contact with the probe tip 4, 5 by a sleeve 3 and against the patient so as to exclude air from between the probe and the patient. <IMAGE>
