Abstract

A cam cleat includes spring loaded cam or pawl 12 rotatably mounted on a base. The cam has a toothed line-engaging surface and opens and closes in opposite rotary directions to releasably grip a line between the cam and either a like cam or a fixed support. The or each cam is rotatably mounted on a post by a plurality of sets of rolling bearing elements to substantially reduce the effort required in opening and closing the cleat and to reduce the spring force maintained on the or each cam, resulting in substantial advantages in performance. <IMAGE>
