Abstract

A worktop suitable for use in kitchens is made of elements of modular dimensions, some of which contain apertures for the reception of sinks or other items in the surface, and kitchen appliances under the surface, and some of which have a continuous surface, the elements having downwardly extending edges to which edges of adjoining elements can be rigidly and sealingly connected, the elements being made of a material comprising a fine-grained inorganic substance containing a thermosetting resin binder and including glass fibres, moulded to the desired final shape and having a thickness of at least 3 mm. Preferably the elements containing apertures in the working surface have a recess to accommodate the flanged edges of sinks etc. incorporated therein.
