Abstract

This invention relates to lintels for use across openings in cavity walls and provides a lintel consisting partly of metal and partly of concrete. The lintel includes front and rear flanges, e.g. 2, 3, consisting of metal, and a central web, e.g. 12, consisting partly of metal and partly of concrete. The two flanges and the metal part of the web are preferably constituted by a metal member formed from a single strip of metal. The concrete part of the web may be constituted by a concrete beam cast integrally with the metal member or a concrete beam which is removably attached to the metal member, for example, by means of nuts and bolts. The concrete part may be formed in a permanent form of resin-impregnated glass fibres. <IMAGE>
