Abstract

Brake equipment (1) for a mining machine working in an inclined seam has a shoe (6) locating over a fixed guide rail (10), the shoe having an open slot (16) which leads to a recess (8) receiving the rail (10). A brake member (18) is pivotally mounted in the slot (16) and has a cam face (22) engageable with the rail (10). Upon movement of the machine in the forbidden direction, the brake member (18) pivots to bring the cam face (22) into frictional engagement with the rail (10) and the shoe (6) moves to contact the rail (10) to brake the machine. <IMAGE>
