Abstract

An arrangement for controlling a stream of fluidized solid particles flowing through a duct 14 to a discharge opening 15. The duct 14 prevents solid particles from reaching the discharge opening 15 simply by sliding in a non-fluidized state therethrough, due to the dimensions of the duct. Means are provided for controllably supplying a fluidizing gas to the duct to cause a fluidization of solid particles within the duct and this permits a controllable outflow of fluidized particles through the discharge opening. Said gas supplying means include a plurality of gas admission openings 19 in the wall of the duct and valve means 25 for individually controlling the supply of gas through each such opening. At least one additional separately controlled gas admission opening may be provided in the wall of a particle containing receptacle 12 at the input end of the duct at a level slightly above the outlet 13 of the receptacle. The apparatus shown may be used for gassifying coal. <IMAGE>
