Abstract

An automatic optical reading apparatus for reading sheets has means for determining whether or not a sheet has been read successfully and has a conveying system in which sheets are passed to a collecting space for successfully read sheets, being initially partially introduced to the space. If reading is successful the sheet is fully introduced into the space. If reading is unsuccessful the sheet is withdrawn in the reverse direction to a space for unsuccessfully read sheets.
