Abstract

An electrical capacitor comprises a dielectric strip with metallisation in both surfaces and folded along lines parallel to longitudinal edges and to the eventual contact ends of the capacitor body. One surface may have two metal-free longitudinal edges while the other has a parallel central metal free zone. The strip may be folded once, off-centre so that one longitudinal edge extends beyond the other, or 5+4n times with one fold extending beyond its neighbours along one side and the free edges extending beyond the folds at the other. The metal-free central zone is on the inside of the single or extending fold. Alternatively opposite longitudinal edges are metal-free on one surface, which edges extend from opposite sides when there are an even number of folds. The assembly, or a plurality thereof superimposed, may be wound into a roll before applying end-contact coatings.
