Abstract

A composition for protecting the skin against ultraviolet rays contains or is formed of at least one biothioic compound having one or more -C-(=S)-S groups. Suitable compounds include esters of the formula R1-C(=S)-S-R2 in which R1 and R2 are hydrocarbon radicals. Some compounds which are novel per se are certain dithio-esters and the invention provides methods of making these.
