Abstract

Refractory lined vessels having bricks designed in such a way that the thickness of the brick lining remaining at any time may be readily assessed. In particular a vessel is provided lined with refractory bricks around its inner wall at least some of which (8, 9) are arranged in pairs tapered along their mating faces (10) in the direction of the lining thickness, whereby as the exposed face of the lining erodes the position of the visible joint between the tapered bricks provides an indication of the thickness of the brick lining remaining. <IMAGE>
