Passing materials through fluids and fluid-applying apparatus.-In apparatus for carrying out the process claimed in the parent Specification for the dyeing, bleaching, and analogous treatment of loose textile material in the unspun state, the container 9, 10 passes over a number of perforated cylinders 11 each loosely mounted on a fixed bearing comprising a hollow cylindrical member 14 connected by radial parts 15 to a perforated tubular part 13 through which the treating liquor is passed. The part of the bearing over which the container passes has short radial parts, and the member 14 is cut away to allow passage of the liquor. The perforations in the part of the cylinder 11 which are not covered by the container are closed by the member 14. The upper endless belt 9, forming part of the container is tensioned by a gravity roller 48 having adjustabla means for limiting its upward movement. The lower belt passes over rollers 54 below the treatment tanks and around adjustable rollers 58. The pairs of rollers 7, 8 between which the container is fed are pressed together by weighted lever and link mechanism 38, 39, 41. An adjustable, screw 45 acting on the bearing of the roller 7 passes through a nut on the lever 38 which normally rests on a projection and limits the upward movement of the roller 7, but it can yield when an abnormally thick part of the container passes between the rollers. The lower roller 8 of each pair of rollers which are geared together is driven through a friction clutch driven from a worm 32, Fig. 4 the worm meshes with a wormwheel 33 loose on the roller shaft 62 and carrving a friction disc 63 which is engaged by a friction disc 64 slidably keyed on the shaft. The pressure between the discs is controlled by an adjustable spring 67.
