Abstract

199,407. Brown, F. A. J. June 15, 1922. Opening by cutting.- A canopener comprises a cutting and piercing member b and a guide member c so riveted to the shouldered lower end of a handle stem a' as to lie parallel to each other, and both being extended laterally at their roots or bases in one or both directions to form a support for rocking the device during cutting. The T-shaped cutter part b is formed with chamfered cutting edges b<4> tapering to a piercer point b<3>. The guide member is both longer and wider than the cutter and is shown chamfered off at the lower end to serve as a screwdriver. The rear face of this part along the edge c<3> is also formed into a cutting edge. Instead of being on the outer faces of the parts, the chamfered cutting edges b<4>, c<3> may be on the inside, the outer faces 'being flat. The instrument may have a T-shaped handle one end of which may be formed as a hammer and the other as a screwdriver or cork-screw.
