Apparatus for making collars. -Relates to a cutting device for collars of the type having an angle between the wing portion and the button hole tab position, means being furnished for raising or stretching the material at the junction of these portions before the cutting operation. This ensures that a sufficient amount of folded-over material for stitching purposes is provided when the edges have been "patent turned." The end plates 8, 9 and plates 6, 7 fold over the material of the blank projecting beyond the shape 5 to patent turn the edges. The plates 8, 9 are provided respectively with projecting portions 8<c>, 9<c> for stretching the material at these points, and with slots 8b, 9<b> for the passage of the cutting knives 8<a>, 9<a>. The plates 8, 9 may have two projecting surfaces and slots to cooperate with pairs of knives for cutting double blanks. Plates 12, 13 underneath the blank and shape are provided with a series of slots for the passage of the knife, thereby enabling different sized blanks to be treated. Preferably a hingedshape 5 is employed having spring catches 5<a> for holding the material. Fig. 1 shows the cuttercarrying plates 8, 9 applied to a machine with heating means 3, shape carrying head 4, and a top plate 2 which is raised or lowered by bevel gear 16, nut 17, and screw 18. A hand-lever or the like is attached to a centre plate 15 connected by links 20 - - 23 which simultaneously operate the plates 6 - - 9.
