Clearing-apparatus; tension arrangements. - Means for removing impurities such as seeds, slubs, &c. from yarn comprises pairs of blades 70, 70<1>, having their inner edges spaced apart by a distance less than the diameter of the yarn, one or each blade of each pair being provided with a notch 80 which partly encircles the yarn. The blades are resiliently mounted in a frame so that they are vibrated by the yarn as it passes between them, and may be arranged therein in rear of notched straight-edged vibrating blades 50, 50<1>, one pair of blades 70, 70<1> being mounted between two pairs 50, 50<1>. The detached particles are directed downwardly by the blades within the skirt 32 and are collected in any desired manner. One side of the frame is adjustable to adapt the blades to different yarns. A tension device is mounted at the front end of the frame, and comprises a rotary member 19<f> mounted on a stud 19<d> and weighted by discs 19<i> adapted to pass over a non-circular head on the stud. The member 19<f> is provided with a flaring flange 19h which extends above the frame, so that, when the yarn is threaded through the entrance guide 19<b> and exit guide 19<f> and is drawn forward by the winding or other machine, it is guided by the flange 19<h> into the tension device and through a slit formed between the covers of the frame to the blades, pins 90 preventing it falling below the level of the notches. The blades 70, 70<1> may replace the deflector blades and all or a part of the clearer blades in the apparatus described in Specification 195,599.
