Abstract

197,327. Hedley, F., and Doyle, J. S. May 6, 1922, [Convention date]. Exhibiting coins.-An enlarged image of each coin deposited in a coin - freed machine is shown to attendants and others to reveal the presence of a spurious coin. An opening covered by a transparent plate 22 is made in the side of the coin shoot, Figs. 1 and 2, and in front of the opening is mounted in lips 19, 21 a prism lens 13 with one plane face 14 across the opening, the other plane face 15 being silvered and the spherical surface 16 being presented outwardly through the casing 17 of the apparatus. Each coin, after freeing the apparatus, is arrested in front of the lens by an arm 39, and its image is reflected from the surface 15. A lamp may be provided to illuminate the coin. Instead of a prism lens, a plain lens may be used, the coin shoot being given a quarter turn to bring the face of the coin opposite the lens. Coin action, electric-connection; coin-discharging mechanism.-The apparatus may be freed by a coin in any desired manner. In the form shown the coin bridges contacts 24, 25, Fig. 9, to complete an electric circuit and energize a magnetic relay 29 which rocks a shaft 32 carrying a finger 33. The finger 32 wipes past a blade 34 on an arm 35 carried by a rock shaft 36 having a pin and slot connection 41, 40 with the hub of the arm 39 permitting lost motion, so that, although the shaft 36 is rocked in both directions by the passage of the finger 33, the arm 39 is only moved once against a spring 42 to withdraw the pin 12 and allow the coin to drop to a money-box. The finger 33 may be a flat spring. Turnstiles.-The diagram, Fig. 9, shows a circuit suitable for use with coin-controlled turnstiles to which the invention is stated to be particularly applicable and comprising contacts 24, 25, a source of current 26, a contact device 27, a magnetic relay coil 29 and earth connections G.
