Abstract
197,144. Rixen, C. J. March 24, 1922. Thermal switches; protective arrangements.- To protect electric motors and other electrical apparatus against overheating, a thermal switch, Fig. 1, in which the melting of a fusible nut g allows a spring h to move a contact-piece f<1>, is arranged to connect one or more of the supply fuses d, Fig. 2, in a short circuit to earth, the fuse thereupon blowing and cutting off current from the protected apparatus. The short circuiting connection may be across the main, or between the neutral point of a polyphase system and tappings in the stator windings. The thermal switch may be put through an opening in the casing of a machine y, as shown in Fig. 10, or otherwise mounted close to the commutator, armature or other parts liable to become overheated. The invention may be applied to electric irons.
