Abstract

196,534. Leggo, A. V. Dec. 23, 1921. Charges, agitating.- A rabbling - mechanism for roasting - furnaces consists of a rotatable shaft or shafts having detachable arms 36 thereon, a row of stirring teeth 85 with down. wardly, forwardly and inwardly inclined shanks 89 on the front edge 82 of the arm and a row of furrow-forming teeth 86 on the rear edge 83 of the arm. The broad feet 90 of the stirring-teeth are set at an angle to the front of the arm and may 'be thickened on one side to give them a lateral inclination to cause the one to be moved inward or outward. The teeth are provided with jaws 87 engaging wedge-shaped projections 84 on the edges 82, 83 of the arm 36 and are retained in place by a locking-bar 88. The stirring and furrow-forming teeth may be combined, as shown in Fig. 9, and are spaced apart by distancepieces 95. The rear teeth 86 are made shorter than the front teeth 85, so that the hearth is kept covered with ore. All the stirring-teeth are made uniform in size and shape, with the exception of the innermost one, and the foot of the central one is in a radial line A drawn through the rabble shaft. The outer edges of the outer teeth are in advance of the radial line B, while the outer edges of the inner teeth are behind the radial line C. This ensures uniform distribution of the ore over the hearth. The feet of the teeth 86 are set at an angle to the arm 36, as shown in Fig. 3, or they may be arranged to move the one outwardly or inwardlv, as desired. The teeth 86 track between the furrows made by the teeth 85.
